Choosing a Role

Go for it! Once you have found your perfect match, the next step is to get in touch with the organisation. Tell them why you are interested in the role and talk about the skills you have and perhaps the skills you’d like to learn. Be honest about your availability and place of work preferences.

Give them some time to respond. Some charities and volunteer-run organisations may take a little while to get back to you, keep this in mind when you are waiting and always follow up with an email and/or phone call.

Be committed. As a volunteer you can leave an organisation at any time; however, most roles will ask you to commit to a certain amount of time, be that the length of a small project or an ongoing position. Make sure you are willing to make these commitments - it costs money and time to recruit each volunteer so try not to let them down.
